Curiosity takes me to Nostalgia
Funny how certain activities bring back memories of the past. I was somewhat nostalgic this week after spending a wonderful few days with my stepmom and aunt. My aunt pulled out the breadmaker to whip up her famous buns and we reminisced over my grandmother’s flour sifter. It comes from an era that many like to think was simpler and slower. Me, I kind of like the ease of the breadmaker; throw everything in in the correct order and voila, fresh bread.
There’s something about gathering in the kitchen with the smell of baking. I have a weakness for fresh bread and chocolate chip cookies and haven’t done as much baking now that my kids are older and out of the house (the less temptation the better!). My grandmother used to make these delicious sugar cookies shaped like crescents and meringue cookies with chocolate that melted in your mouth. I will have to see if I still have the recipes – I know what I’m doing for Thanksgiving!!
