Curiosity takes me to procrastination and the spider
What does it take for you to procrastinate? Definitely the things we don’t enjoy take longer, but I am normally fairly swift at cleaning up “stuff” once I put my mind to it. About six boxes sit under the stairs in our place in Kelowna; there since we moved in and only opened long enough to determine we didn’t need them right away. We now require more storage so I’d like to see what is in them and donate it if we aren’t going to use it.
It all started with a spider. My step-daughter and I were enjoying sitting on the deck one night, complete with a warm breeze and delightful conversation . “OMG there is a huge spider behind you!!!” came flying out of her mouth and I immediately jumped out of my chair. Ugg, just looking at this picture makes me cringe as I really have a fear of spiders. I think this is due to bites I had when I was a kid, but it’s not rational I know. (Sorry, the picture isn’t great but when you are dealing with a scary monster, you grab your phone and go). I probably wouldn’t survive in Australia or any other place where venomous spiders are abundant.
If you have time (but not if you don’t like profanity as s#*% was in there once, sorry), please watch the very short video How not to kill a spider as it will provide a little humour. Spoiler alert: two women, one giant spider, a twig of a stick to shove the spider away that bounces back from the web. Lots of screaming, laughing and one missing spider!
So I decided the next day that I had to sweep the spider webs off the house and clean up some wood that needs to go to the dump. My neighbours must have been laughing if they saw me as I would jump if something brushed my leg – Chester – and recoiled quickly when I found another largish spider in the pile of wood. Before you think I am too crazy, there are Black Widow spiders in Kelowna and I do not want to get bitten by one of those!
The boxes still haven’t been opened as I am waiting for my partner to be around for support in case something jumps out at me. How’s that for rationalizing my procrastination!
Strangely, I wondered if perhaps some photography would help to see if I could capture some bugs up close to make them look beautiful, not scary. Please enjoy!
