Lovely Lake Louise
Happy New Year and I wish you a wonderful 2017.
Over the holidays I have enjoyed spending time with family, especially seeing some from Ontario and British Columbia. It is delightful to reconnect in person!
The week before Christmas, we escaped to the mountains for a day of winter adventure. It was cold and the snow was softly falling when we arrived at Lake Louise, adding to the fluffy white balls adorning the trees. The overcast day seemed suited to black and white images.
We decided to go for a bit of a hike after the two-hour drive and picked the Fairview Lookout trail.
Shortly after I took this picture, the couple ahead of us turned around to find a flatter trail. I’m glad we persevered (it really wasn’t that bad) as the view from the lookout was quite pretty.
Chester enjoyed the ride on the way up and a warm up when we got back to the hotel to take some more pictures. Despite the coat and boots, he gets cold quite easily.
This hut has been photographed probably millions of times, but it shows the scale of the mountains behind.
One of the reasons I enjoy the mountains so much is that they are an “in your face” reminder of the power of nature.
They beckon to be climbed, challenging me very much physically and mentally. I love the glacier-fed lakes, waterfalls and streams which give me brain freeze with a dip of my toes. The wildlife has captivated me over the past year and I can’t wait to get out in the spring to photograph more.
In the meantime, I will bundle up to ski, snowshoe and hike to try to enjoy the wintery weather as much as possible. May you have fun times, wherever your adventures take you!
