Magic in the forest
This week’s Daily Post Challenge theme of magic had me thinking of exploring the forest. I remember as a kid spending countless hours in a ravine near the house. My sister and I and sometimes a few friends would go after school and build forts under the trees and come up with all kinds of stories and adventures. Our dog was always the protector of the fort and a willing participant as long as treats were involved.
When my kids were small, we explored the parks of Calgary, as well as the mountains. We never usually got further than a stream, as anything floating on or thrown into the water was much more exciting than trudging up a hill. I enjoyed wading through little tributaries looking for trolls and other creatures almost as much as they did.
The leaf would soon become a ship carrying riches from a foreign land. It had to navigate many dangers to reach its destination (a sandy patch in a shallow pool further down the river where a small town was built with rocks and pieces of bark).
I didn’t have any kids with me the day I took these pictures, but it was no less magical. See you in the forest!
