I must have been a cowgirl in another life; one not allergic to farm animals, grasses, and dust. Cows, dilapidated barns, and big skies came together in one enjoyable afternoon.
Driving with no set destination and stopping when your eye catches something interesting appealed to my sense of curiosity and discovery.
Sunday drives seem to be less popular now; although I have certainly made more time to explore over the past year.
We headed southeast of Calgary on Highway 547 to look for abandoned barns and unique items not found in an urban setting. The contrast of old and new (and the reflection) drew me to this spot. The dirt mounds were full of well-fed ground squirrels.
We stopped by a herd of cattle. Calving has begun.
The grain elevators at Mossleigh were quite interesting. I had driven by earlier in the year when I was out hunting for snowy owls but did not take the time to investigate (probably because it was -20C that day!). I love the snow plow on the train – check out this youtube video to see one in action.
I hope you can spend some time exploring, particularly as the weather improves.
Thanks for visiting!!
