Time to get it on
There’s a first time to see everything (given I started birding one year ago, that is just about every day!). On my last outing with the Friends of Fish Creek spring birding group, the ospreys were a little frisky.
Frankly, if someone came at me with talons like these, I might get a little panicky.
But the female just waited patiently while the male flew up and perched on her back. (Sorry, these photos are cropped quite a bit and are not completely sharp).
To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter… to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird’s nest or a wildflower in spring – these are some of the rewards of the simple life. We saw a few families which were further along.
The tree swallows were abundant and their brilliant colour is beautiful.
I really enjoy the yellow-headed blackbirds, along with the red-winged variety. I was not able to get a good shot, so here is a female and a male from last spring at Frank Lake.
